Hinton Training Centre
We provided mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services for this wildfire and forestry training facility.
The Hinton Training Centre is a post-secondary facility that delivers natural resource training for clients in government and industry. Owned and operated by the Alberta government, the centre develops and delivers professional technical training programs in wildfire management and forest management.
Alberta Infrastructure engaged our team for the design and replacement of the boilers, condensing units, HVAC, and controls. The replacement equipment we designed was significantly more energy efficient and included new condensers, boilers, addition of heat recovery ventilators, and addition of variable air volume (VAV) boxes.
The new systems included four boilers, four large air handling units (AHUs), four split system condensing units, four heat recovery ventilators, and more than 20 VAV boxes with existing space constraints.
We upgraded the control system with demand-controlled ventilation, improving energy efficiency, and air zone operations with the addition of the VAV boxes. Our team executed this project using 3D scanning and BIM software and incorporated a past Revit model of the existing building.
Our innovative design allowed the project to achieve significant improvements in energy efficiency and reductions in carbon emissions.
