LaGuardia International Airport
Our team provided baggage handling services for LaGuardia International Airport in New York, New York.
This program is to develop the new $4 Billion USD Central Terminal Building at LaGuardia Airport. The new 1.4+ million ft² facility is capable of handling 14+ million passengers annually. The new facility features 35 aircraft gate positions and new baggage handling and checked baggage inspection system serving eight airline carriers. The design features two new concourses connected to the main terminal headhouse by dual pedestrian bridges spanning the aircraft ramp area.
Our team was responsible for providing all planning and design engineering for the BHS and 35 gate Aircraft Parking Layouts. Additional contractual responsibilities include bid support and Construction Administration services encompassing site installation, integration, testing, and acquisition oversight for the baggage handling and security screening systems to support a phased construction plan.
The baggage system, engineered by our team, is composed of 19,637 linear feet (l.f.) of conveyor, 8,246 l.f. of catwalk, 1,261 motor/drive units, 53 Motor Control Panels (MCPs), 33 security doors, 8 ticket counter lines, 15 sort piers, 9 recirculating claim devices, and a security screening matrix containing 5 Explosive Detection System (EDS) devices, and the associated Checked Baggage Resolution Area (CBRA).
The aircraft parking design is for 35 gates on two remote concourses with Concourse A having 17 gates and Concourse B having 18 gates. Thirty-one of the gates serve Group 3 aircraft (737-900 and smaller) and the remaining four gates serve Group 4 aircraft (767-400 and smaller).
