Canmore’s Net Zero Fire Hall Sets New Standards for Sustainability

The new post-disaster, net zero Fire Hall in the Town of Canmore is a state-of-the-art facility, built to prioritize resilience, sustainability, and the community's future needs. Designed with four spacious fire truck apparatus bays, the Fire Hall is well-equipped to handle emergency response demands. The adjacent administration wing, currently one story, is designed for future expansion to two stories, allowing flexibility to meet the growing needs of Canmore.

We played a crucial role in ensuring that the Fire Hall met the Town of Canmore's ambitious Zero-Carbon criteria. Through detailed parametric energy analysis, we identified the optimal strategies to reduce the building's carbon footprint and improve overall energy performance.

The Fire Hall incorporates several innovative features:

Geothermal Loop Heat Exchange - taps into stable underground temperatures, providing highly efficient heating and cooling while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Radiant Slab Heating - embedded in the building's floors delivers warmth directly where it's needed, ensuring a comfortable environment while enhancing energy efficiency.

Photovoltaic Array - on the roof generates solar power, reducing the building's dependence on the grid and contributing to its net zero energy goals.

100% Outdoor Air Ventilation System- guarantees fresh, filtered air throughout the facility, enhancing indoor air quality and comfort for both staff and visitors.

These advanced systems not only help the Fire Hall achieve its net zero energy targets but also ensure it remains fully operational during and after any disaster.
