Silverstone Race Circuit Plot K Business Park
This new build development formed part of a multi-million-pound masterplan surrounding the Silverstone Race Circuit.
The master plan was created to ensure the site continued to be maintained at a high level so it could host the whole range of motorsport events and remain the catalyst for motorsport technology and education in the UK and on an international stage.
The Plot K Business Park consisted of fourteen industrial and workshop new build units, which predominantly provide essential support space for production, technical, and motorsport-related uses. The new buildings are modern and flexible, plus include office accommodation, production space, welfare facilities for staff, and a service area that facilitates the maneuvering of large vehicles in connection with loading and unloading operations.
One of the main challenges was to ensure the sites were flexible enough to accommodate other business uses if the occupants moves or ceases trading from the premises or if the nature of their operations changed.
A further challenge was to overcome the lack of available utilities around the vicinity of the site, in particular natural gas. To overcome this, a central tanked LPG system was initially provided, designed so that when natural gas arrived at the development, the existing gas distribution pipework could be adopted and connected to the natural gas supply.
We created an energy-sufficient and sustainable design by working closely with the architect and client through several iterations of the energy model. Introba (formerly Elementa Consulting) provided mechanical, electrical, public health design, and energy modeling for the site and infrastructure.
