Watsonville Water Resources Center

The new Watsonville Water Resources Center was first constructed in the 1920s and is now dedicated to protecting the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The Center treats wastewater, provides recycled water to local farmers, protects groundwater, and reduces wastewater into the bay. 

The facility design includes a new operations building and a testing lab, bringing the city’s water management officials, scattered initially in different offices, into one new integrated facility to further the water conservation mission and public watershed education. 

The sustainable design features incorporated into the building include radiant heating and cooling using reclaimed water, rooftop vents and operable windows for natural ventilation, skylights to provide natural light throughout the building, and low-flow plumbing fixtures that provide 68% in water savings.
