Kingston Centre | Residential Aged Care Facility
The 150-bed Kingston Centre Residential Aged Care Facility project will deliver best-practice ‘resident-focus’ aged care in an environment that promotes independence and privacy and includes dementia-friendly features.
To maintain a home-like environment, residents will be accommodated in single bedrooms grouped into households. The facility’s design optimizes connections to the surrounding natural environment, with open area views, abundant natural light, and access to terraces and gardens.
Being designed following the Aged Care Royal Commission, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, a key focus for our team was improving the indoor environment quality of these new buildings and creating a new benchmark for safe, resilient, and healthy aged care facilities. Emphasis includes access to natural light and views and implementing resilient ventilation systems that limit the potential for contaminant spread and allow enhanced protection during higher-risk periods.
Our fire engineers worked collaboratively with key project stakeholders to prioritize fire and life safety measures by using fire compartments to divide the space into residential wings. This innovative approach facilitates horizontal evacuation, which is vital for aged residents who require assistance during an emergency.
